I’m not talking about the state or city where your house is built, but where you spend your time. Not a physical location, but rather the location of your heart and mind.
For instance, I live in a big city with millions of other people, but my mind doesn’t spend time in the city. That’s not what I think about during the day, nor dream of at night.
You may be anticipating where I’m heading with this question, already suspecting Matthew 6:21, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (NET)
That’s a great and well-loved verse, but instead I wanted to share Psalms 91 with you today. Psalms 91:1 says, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (KJV)
The psalm continues on, telling us of His sheltering protection. In verse 15, the Lord says, “When he calls out to me, I will answer him. I will be with him when he is in trouble; I will rescue him and bring him honor.” (NET)
Do you dwell in the shelter of the God of the universe?
Picture with me for a moment a bald eagle. This beautiful bird has an impressive wingspan – an amazing sight to behold as he soars overhead.
On the nest, the protective parent covers the young, defenseless ones with those same wings. The little ones, regardless of the danger around them, are safely hidden away.
Verse 4 gives us this same picture, talking about our Protector: “He will shelter you with his wings; you will find safety under his wings. His faithfulness is like a shield or a protective wall.” (NET)
Do you have trouble lurking at your door? Stop and think about where you (your heart and mind) are dwelling. If you believe God’s Word, dwell in Him. He will shelter you under His wings and protect you. You can rest in Him.
